    What difference does this make?

Correct me if I'm wrong: I'm considering lowering my standard setup so its less work under the left hand, but I risk getting more fingerboard slap/buzz, and diminishing in volume.

    I mainly pizz.

    Thanks (again!)

You can get buzz, and will when you get them low enough. Also, there is usually a height where if you go below that height, the sound of the bass will diminish. I generally keep my string just above this line.

The lower the strings, the easier it is to play fast, for the left hand especially, and the less strength it takes to get the string down on the fingerboard.
