To whom it may concern I got into LA this evening and I called my very close friend Bassist Rana Ross.like always if I didn't speak to her I would leave a message.since I have been on the road and in the studio I had to catch up on my E-mail and this is the E-mail I got from her Husband John.I called John and was even more sadden by the fact that Rana will no longer be with us.I flew to the hospital to kick it with my girl and pay my respects.I can honestly say that she will greatly missed.
For those of you who are interested in an update on Rana "BassGirl"
there is unfortunately no good news as of yet. After suffering a series
small heart attacks at home on Monday the 28th of April, Rana was taken
the Emergency Room at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Burbank, CA. While
emergency she suffered a full cardiac arrest and died. The ER doctors
able to resuscitate her but, unfortunately, the attack landed her in a
on life support in ICU with no neurological responses as of this

The apparent cause of the heart attack was due to complications of end
cirrhosis of the liver. Unknown to Rana and myself she had developed
bleeders over the weekend in the stomach. When she arrived in ER her
pressure was in the range of 60/32. She started to throw up blood, was
several units of blood but they could not keep up with the bleeding and
result was too little blood arriving to the major organs, ending in a
heart attack. They have cauterized one bleeding ulcer so far but there
too much blood in the stomach to see if there are more bleeders, and
pulled at least 400cc of blood from her stomach so far, along with 5
    free floating in the abdomen.

Her lungs have started to fill with liquid, but she is too grave to
withstand the standard drainage procedures. She seems to be failing as
this moment and it would take more than a small miracle to bring her

I would like to take a moment and give big kudos to Jeff Moleski, the
engineer/producer who has been helping Rana try to complete her Solo CD
release. This man has been an incredible support throughout Rana's
since she got extremely ill last October. He shut his studio down and
the entire setup into Rana and my living room. This allowed Rana to be
to work on the recordings whenever she had the strength to do so,
    whether it
was 15 minutes or 8 hours, he has been there for her. He and Rana had
started to do test mixes on the songs in the last couple of weeks. I
    may be
prejudiced, because I LOVE HER WITH EVERY ATOM OF MY BEING, with every
moment that I've been blessed to spend with her, but I think Rana
    should be
extremely proud of what she has created. She meant every note, every
every nuance that went into this recording. I hope that others will
    have the
chance to enjoy this effort, regardless of what happens with Rana in
next few days Jeff and I will be doing everything possible to get the
recording released. Ideally there should be another 2 songs recorded to
out the CD - I was thinking that if any other bass players/musicians
be interested in submitting and recording a song or two in dedication
    to the
instrument that she loves - the bass.

Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers, and if anyone wants to be
updated, etc., please feel free to contact me at:
    medical@zuperchicken.com or leave a message if I don't

Sorry for the length of the post, I hope I didn't irritate too many
with it. Also, let me know if anyone would like an occasional update
shorter) posted to the mailing list. Thank you.

John Ross, loving husband of Rana "BassGirl" Ross
  2. Mike Dimin posted a thread about this earlier. It's still sad.

I was just reading this old thread today.

And to answer your question. Sadly it wasn't. Even though professional copies were made.

I am sorry to read this. :(
It sounds like she put a lot of heart into the music she recorded for that CD. Is there any way to get a song on iTunes? I would so much love to hear it.
    Thank you.

Wow, I can't believe it's been over 10 years since Rana's passing. Strangely, I was just thinking about her today. Some cosmic clock in my head reminded me that I still miss her. I never knew her 'in the flesh' but we corresponded several times and I found her to be gracious and witty and kind. A lovely soul. I'm glad to see that someone (John?) is keeping bassgirl.com alive. I wonder if there is any way to get her last CD out there? Is it complete enough to put on Bandcamp or something? Even rough mixes would be nice to add to her legacy and keep her spirit alive.
