(random rant) $2700 bathroom faucet.

Discussion in 'Off Topic [BG]' started by line6man, Sep 27, 2008.

  1. This has absolutly nothing to do with music, but i feel like talking about it.

the faucet in my bathroom sink has been screwed up for a long time, and i finally decided to replace it.
of course, i like to browse the internet for absolutly any and every thought that enters my mind... so i looked up some faucets on the internet.

i spent $133 something on a new faucet, but as i was looking across the Kohler website, i came across this:

    $2730.65 :eek::eek::eek:

for the life of me, i do not understand it.
why the hell would any person spend that kind of money on a godamn faucet?

if anybody owns one of these, please give me your adress so that i can get a plane ticket, and fly to your house, and slap the **** out of you for spending $2700 on a faucet.

    rant over.
  2. Perspective. That faucet is roughly 20X what you spent on yours. The faucet you bought, I imagine, accomplishes what it is supposed to with some style and what probably amounts to mid-line quality. Kinda like a MIM Fender. For about 20X the price of a MIM Fender, you can buy a bass that induces a Pavlovian response of drooling and uncontrollable gushing at the quality and craftsmanship.

    Everyone's into something.

I would rather install 20 faucets in my bathroom with that money. Each one delivering a slightly different temperature.

    But that's just me talking.

    My wife is an architect.

Her version of a Ritter or Fodera bass is $1000-$2000+ sink hardware or door hardware (knob, lock, etc) that runs $600-$800+.

According to her the fit, finish and feel of this madness is worth it, claiming: "When you interface with a beautiful space, a cheap door or faucet is totally wrong"

Before meeting her I went to home depot and got the $69 kind. When we renovated we our home we did NOT got the super high end hardware--however we did get stuff that cost way more than the home depot stuff.

I debated her....heck its just a doorknob! She called me out on my high end basses....reminding me that I could play a MIM Fender instead of that new Rob Allen. Its just a bass.

Smart girl. No early retirement for me.
  5. If you can afford it, then there isn't a problem...

Mind you thats the list price, not the retail price.

That is a badass looking faucet though. I'd hit it if I had the money.

They all don't cost that much? I have to quit sending out my steward to pick out fixtures when I'm in Aspen.

You don't have a personal home hardware specialist? I guess things are more provincial where you live.;)

I @#$% sure am going to hire one now! The quality of available man-servants just doesn't seem to be the same anymore. One used to be able to find a guy who could pre-chew your fillet mignon and pick out a good faucet. Not anymore.:scowl:

I blame the Beatles, and their gosh darn "Rock and Roll," for this degradation of the work force.

Just to play the devils advocate, you might claim that your rob Allen has a sound, (the function) that is better than the MIM Fender. Both faucets provide water....? If you were taking MIM fenders and having them coated with diamonds or some very expensive aesthetic material, she would have a point.

Don't get me wrong, buy it if you want it, it's a cool faucet. I'm not going to criticize someone's choices.

I don't know what you're all talking about. Replacing things in your house? I mean, when something breaks, you replace it.

I'm on my 8th new mansion this year, I hope it is a keeper.

It looks pretty badass. However, I have to agree it's maybe more pricey than stylish.
  15. You guys can talk trash about it all you want, but if I could afford to spend that much on a faucet, you bet your ass I would buy it.

Cause being rich and having too much money to know what to do with would be awesome.

Some of those oil sheiks have solid gold ones encrusted with jewels as spigots on the bird baths for their falcons.

They do it to their cars, too.

The solid silver Audi would match the faucet nicely:
  18. i think you guys are missing my point.

$2700 is just too much money for a faucet when i can buy a great looking one for under $200.
i very highly doubt that anybody that uses my bathroom would notice the difference between a $133 faucet and a $2700 faucet...
if you have enough money to spend on things like this, thats cool, but seriously, there are much better things to spend your money on.

    for example:
there are alot of people in the world that literally have nothing...
i could do a lot of great things for people with the $2500 i saved by buying a regular faucet.

FWIW, here is the faucet that i bought:
  19. From a mass production company that is crazy... but, I make high end door hardware and it's all relative. I'm working on a house in Vegas that has over 600 hinges that cost over $300 each. Some people got a LOT of money... and don't mind spending it. And I am glad they are out there. :)
  20. Enjoy!

"And now heres a Swarovski crystal-studded toilet bowl. A company Jemal Wright bath designs, known for designing luxurious bathroom fixtures create this one of a kind toilet bowl covered in Swarovski crystals with a price of $75,000."
