The tone ranges from smooth to aggressive, with great clarity and punch. The TBX control provides a gnarly boost beyond the tonal range of most passive basses. Very ergonomic, very fast instrument, and a real work of art at that. Looks as good on the wall as it does in your hands. While I don't have a scale -- my seven-year-old son smashed it last year -- it feels very light and comfortable, like a Jazz.
