I'm a really big fan of Rage Against the Machine, and I was looking for some specifics on Tim C's tone. I know that he uses Fender Jazz Basses and overdrive, and it sounds like he boosts his mids, but i was wondering: what amp(s) does he use, does he use any effects besides overdrive, and does he get his overdrive from a pedal or the amp. thanks.
Mmm... this is what iv seen him play whit. iv seen 3 diffrent Fender's off him (theres prolly alot more ) Its one that is hevily modify whit a Alien sticker it got no pickguard and a mapel neck. The next looks to be something like the 75 Vintage jazz bass model and We got the one he used in the 'No Shelter' and 'Guerrila Radio' vidos whice is a black colored jazz bass whit mapel and whit bindig block inlays or marmor im not sure For his amps the only thing iv seen is the SVT810E not sure what head thought and he got lots of effect pedals havent figured out what he got thought hope this helps
I'm not totally sure but I heard that he uses a Dimarzio Model J in one of his jazzes. I'm guessing the cream colored pickup in the pickguardless natural ash jazz is a Model J.
If you look in the background of the "Killing In The Name Of" video, he is using Eden cabs. I'm not sure about the heads, but he's also using a Fender Jazz.
I think the drive is just the amp for the most part. There are definately parts where a pedal is added though. I've seen a few pics where he's stepping on the pedal, but I can't make out what it is. See the liner for Evil Empire.
i have a video of RATM with a bunch of live stuff, and he has Ampeg 8x10s with a good array of Fender Jazz Basses, but i dont remember what head he used, I'll have to watch it again to see. I'm almost positive for distortion he uses a Marshall Guv'nor pedal.
Fender V Basses> distortion> svt head w/lotsa mids dailed in> compression with gain reduction> svt 15 and 10 loaded cabs.
