Rautia Pickups

I just got a pair of his multi-coil pickups for my bass build which I am really excited to try out. Are there any other guy on here who has pickups from him? He has got some cool oddities, like an entire range of aria pro II replacements, and has been a great guy to communicate with

Any thoughts? I’m thinking on getting a pair
woah necro!

I dont post much here anymore, sorry. I dont regret them. I would get them again, no doubt. Though if anybody has a preamp suggestion I would be interested. I love them with the east pre I have now but I want to see if I could get something more ideal. I have been pondering one in a 6-string fretless with a stingray preamp as they have a kinda similar sound, the mc's are wider though so headroom may fail. Impedance (not dc resistance) may prove an issue too.

Anyhow you do it; sweepy mids are essential unless you hate yourself. I see why Wal went with the alembic thing

I have a T-Bird sized Rautia multi-coil that I like a lot in an Aria that was missing a pickup when I got it.

Clear & articulate, but still overdrives nicely even passive, although the output isn't that hot.

Veijo Rautia is a pleasure to deal with, as is Lusithand.

I just placed an order for a set of MM sized multicoils and a Lusithand Double NFB Special but I haven't even bought the wood for the bass they're going into yet, so it might be a while for a full report.

I already have a bass with John East EQ-001 & Q-Tuners ( V1 ) so I have something to compare...

WTH is an NFP preamp?

Edit; found out. "Notch Filter low pass Preamp " that they say works like the Alembic, but that isn't a notch, it's a peaking filter.
I am not sure of the terminology. You can find various clips on youtube. Most seem to have someone hitting the string hard and getting lots of fret buzz which makes it hard to listen to IMO

What the heck was that supposed to be?
That kind of aggressive clank sounds like a pretty typical modern metal “technique”, which I guess is a matter of taste but we can probably all agree is not really ideal for demoing tone capabilities of the equipment involved (particularly via a live mic vs a direct recording)

Bringing this thread back from the dead a bit to ask a question -

Does anyone know roughly what the cost is to get a pair (neck, bridge) of Rautia multi-coil pickups in the Stingray shell delivered to the US? He has it set at 380 Euros, but that also includes 24% VAT. I can't find a straight answer as to whether we pay a duty tax on specific goods imported from Finland.

US$469 for my pair of full-size multicoils, including currency conversion & shipping. No VAT to non-Euro destinations.

Stingray size is a few bucks cheaper, IIRC.

Still plodding thru my build so I haven't heard them yet... :^(

Veijo posted that he currently has a ~3 month backlog. Glad I have mine in the parts box.

Much appreciated! I know we don’t have VAT here in the US, but there are some oddball countries where tariffs or some sort of duty tax applies over a certain amount. I’ve dealt with it from the UK on a large purchase and I know the threshold is somewhere around $1600 before taxes start to come into play. Trying to find what applies to goods from Finland you would think would be easy, but nope.

I just saw that post as well about him being backlogged, but that’s ok since having a body built to my specs is at least that long right now.

I just got my MM sized multicoil from Rautia and installed it in my Modulus FB4. New way wiring with 4 hots (one output per string) into a lusithand preamp powered by 18v.

Result? Damn loud and full of gain. I like the way the soft clipping goes when u pluck hard. I’ll post clips when convenient

Yes PLEASE to some sound clips! That thing must sound massive in an FB4. I have an FB5 with a Legacy Lane Poor and I know what those basses are capable of with that pickup.

I've been researching doing a build with a double MM multicoil setup in a Warmoth 54 P bass body. The pickup routes they do are 19mm and Rautia said they need 23-25mm to fit properly. Did you have to do any deepening of the cavity in your FB4 or was it already sufficient?
