Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what I'd be looking at to re paint or re finish a bass? Let's say its clear coated now but I wanted it to be translucent black instead? I'm sure it would be costly to remove EVERYTHING and have this done and then have it all reassembled, but I'd like to know if anyone has every done this and what it costed. Thanks!

  2. i am doing that, i hand sanded the finish and paint, its hard and takes time, but is safer than using an electric sander and screw the belly and fore arm cuts or the shape in general. For the trans blacc you have 2 options: 1. Dye the wood with black dye, sand and apply a lighter coat (dye + mineral spirits) if you like it then apply clear finish. 2. Mix dye + lacquer finish till you get the tone you want, when achieved just clear coats. I will use the 2nd
