Re-tubing a V4B and Sunn 2000S

Discussion in 'Amps and Cabs [BG]' started by sunnpeg, Mar 20, 2003.

  1. Hey all you tubies. I have reading quite a bit lately about various output tubes for these amps. I am looking for any recommendations from users of these or other tube amplifiers.

There seems to be many choices out there and I'm trying to narrow them down.
  2. Get in contact with Lord Valve. He will set you straight.
  3. Thanks for the reply. He recommended some NOS Phillips 7581's as direct replacement for 7027A's in the V4B. I've also been told about some JJ tubes and some Svetlanas (6L6GC) that are supposed to be very good tubes for half the price.

    Anyone tried these?

not yet... but I'm going to get a set of JJ KT88 for my new Sunn Sceptre at it's first check up.

I've heard nothing but good about the JJ stuff.
  5. I am seriously considering some of those KT88's for my 2000S. Please let me know what you think.

I ran a quad of matched 6L6 JJ's in a V4-B and they sounded great. And you sure couldn't beat the price.
