Hi. I have an early '80s (I believe) Yamaha neck through with a P and J setup (there is no model number on this bass but it is similar to the Michael Anthony Yamaha that he used way back).

I believe this model was originally active. Right now it has a volume knob, a blend knob and a tone knob, all passive. Pickups are original and I want to keep them that way.

Can anyone recommend a preamp that I might be able to install (I can solder well) which is solid and doesn't cost a fortune and might be forgiving with impedence issues, etc., since the preamp won't have been made especially for this bass.

    Thanks a lot.

Aguilar OBP1/2. There won't be any 'impedance issues' with most pickups and preamps on the market.
