Reading Bebop Heads

    I started taking lessons again back in May for the first time in years. I pretty much could not read. My teacher has started me on a lot of jazz, and today he assigned me the head to Dizzy Gillespie's Groovin' High. It is such a thrill to figure out the actual notes on a chart! I am a long ways from sight reading, but this sure is fun!

    Enjoy - there's so much to be learned from playing those heads. Definitely check out the recording with Slam Stewart's bowed bass solo.
