as some of you may or may not know, i am a fire fighter here... a buddy of mine from the fd lives on my street... his house caught fire this morning... and well... here's the story.... theres a good video of the story too..

news really didn't get it right though...

he got his fiance out first.. he then went back inside to find his dad. his dad made it out the back door but eddie didn't know it.. there was some sort of explosion in the house and it knocked him out... he then died of smoke inhalation..

its really sad... there was a vigil tonight out infront of his house... a little memorial was placed infront of his truck, pictures of him taped on to his truck.. and an american flag draped over his front door.

    then this poem was recited...

When I am called to duty, God
    Wherever flames may rage
Give me the strength to save some life
    Whatever be the age

Help me to embrace a little child
    Before it is too late
    Or save and older person
From the horror of that fate.

    Enable me to be alert
    And hear the weakest shout
    And quickly and efficiently
    To put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling
And to give the best in me
    To guard my every neighbor
    And protect his property

And if according to my fate
I am to lose my life
Please bless with your protecting hand
The loved one's in my life.

the only thing i can say about the whole situation is.... it sucks

Minneapolis, MN I'm sorry man. That's an amazing story. I could be wrong, but I think it says enough about his character than anything else probably could.

    Seriously... I'm pretty much speechless.

VERY sorry to hear of the loss of your friend. My dad was a firefighter. They are some of the bravest people around and we alomost always take them for granted. What a shame.........

My heart goes out to you and his family.

I can't say how sorry I am...that really sucks, to say the least.
  7. Indeed a devastating loss to your town, you personally and obviously his dear loved ones.

  8. My condolences, clay. Times haven't been easy for you lately, but we're here for you when you need peeps to lean on.
  9. Now that I am about to enter into the community services, I understand even more how hard that kind of thing hits to the guys he worked with.

When a person falls in the line of duty, it is a two edged sword. On one side, the grief and sadness from losing a friend and loved one. On the other side, the pride in knowing that their conviction of duty was so great that they made the ultimate sacrifice to protect others.

I feel both for him, clay. I hope that you can feel the pride, and that it may soften the grief for you, at least a little.

    Rock on
