Here are some Warwick knockoffs. I guess they figured that they might as well do it themselves. This is a company called Andrews Guitars.

I wouldn't call them total knockoffs... greatly Warwick-inspired, absolutely, but they have butt-ugly headstocks in comparison to the original! :D

Actually, the head stock isn't orginal either. That headstock is a rip off of BC Richs Bernado Series.

I thought that, but I didn't want to make an arse of myself by being wrong.

Zulu: Why would it? The craftmenship is probably worse then that of a (insert bad quality bass here). I highly doubt it would, those bass pictures look like some bad job in photoshop.

Actually Warwicks are Spector knockoffs. :D

  10. Vester did some interesting Warwick Thumb and Streamer/Spector NS copies- including an odd "half fretless" design with one half of the fingerboard a maple fretless, the other rosewood fretted.

the headstock allowed a straighter string pull over the nut than a real Warwick....

Okay, so you try to copy a Dolphin (only one of the most unique shapes in bassdom) and say "I'm not rippin' of Warwick, I'm just inspired by them". Uhhh, yeah right. Where are Warwick's copyright and trademark people? You'd think they of all manufacturers would know how to play the game, since I do believe they PAID Spector for the right to use the designs.

    Peace,

    James

Actually, this is not one I'll swear by. I recall reading that in a post either here or alt.guitar.bass
I mean, I should be able to believe everything I read on the internet, right? :p

    Peace,

John, Hans Peter Wilfer paid Stuart Spector and Ned Steinberger to use the NS body style back in 86 or so.

Where are the Teisco del Ray knockoffs?

Pushbutton pickup selectors, 4 single coils with square polepieces... they were so ahead of their time

    ;)

BTW I recall some legal wrangling between Warwick and Spector, years after Warwick produced the NS-inspired basses. Maybe it wasn't so clear after all.
