Recommend a Jazz Guitar Forum?

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [DB]' started by spaghettiwestern, Jan 3, 2007.

  1. Ok, so I'm a double bassist, through & through. Lately though, I've also been developing an interest in Jazz Guitar (the six string kind, not bass guitar).

I've found TB to be a fabulous forum for learning about the double bass, practice techniques, cool players, and potential teachers etc. I can't seem to find a forum for jazz guitar that's as well organized or that has as thoughful or as sane a community. Anybody have a recommendation?

(or can anybody recommend a good teacher in Boston?)

    Thanks.

    There's a yahoo group http://www.jazzguitargroup.com/

but I hear that it can get a little off topic and some of the younger players aren't really receptive to constructive advice. Check it out and see if you can find a place there.

There is also the All About Jazz forum http://forums.allaboutjazz.com/index.php?

but it's not just for guitar but there are some good threads there.

As far as teachers in Boston, I'm sure there are plenty. I will email the guitarist that I play with and ask him who he takes lessons from and get back to you.

rec.musicmakers.guitar.jazz, which you can access through google groups, has a small but sophisticated and knowledgeable group of posters. Like you I play some jazz guitar and I've learned a lot there
