Recommend me a 5 string please

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by Musicman20, Mar 24, 2003.

  1. Hello

Ive always had 4 string basses....mainly fenders and ernie ball stingyrays, but im aftera 5 string, for about £1200 maximum, (about $2000???)

I thought a 5 string ray would be great...i hear these are amazing.

    What about the Bongos?

I want to stick to traditional shapes...but im willing to try anything.

    Any suggestions

I own and love my 5 string Peavey Cirrus.

A really beautiful bass, from the looks and feel to the sound. The low B sounds very full and clean. A very fast bass as well, for a 5 string.

The sound is very well balanced from the low B all the way to the highest notes, on any string.

The active electronics are superb and are 100% noise free.

Of course, Music Man are great basses as well.

If you like the traditional shapes I would look for a used Sadowsky.

With a name like Musicman, you should check out the Stingray 5.

No one Stateside (apart from Dave Larue) has checked out a Bongo, so we're still waiting for the pudding so we can prove it.

The Fender Roscoe Beck is a pretty decent 5. Also the Lakland Skylines.

I like 4s but want to try a 5. I'm a huge fan of Sadowsky (have 4 of his instruments) but don't want to invest that kind of money until I know I'll love the 5. Hence, I'm looking into used Stingray 5s.

I played one last week and it was very nice, especially since I'm used to 4s.
