I'm looking for a mix of old school vintage tone and new sounds for slap. I need to be able to cut through primarily in a rock/alernative/funk setting. and i'm not a MM bucker fan.

so fire away. i've been thinking something like a thunderbird bucker at the neck and a j or nordie Big Single at the bridge.

P/MM setup. Active/passive abilities. 3band EQ and "slap switch" for active mode, tone control and ser/par/single coil switch on MM for passive mode.

Alas, you don't like MM pickups. I'd go with a PJ setup, and keep the active switchable onboard EQ for when you want to go "modern."

I'd probably go with a P/J setup for what you're looking for. Quite versatile. My personal preference is Dimarzio for a bit in your face growling.
  6. i'd go the step farther and the J/P/J set up like stu hamm. golden man
