Has anybody see a Fender Custom Shop '64 Closet Classic done in candy red? This one belongs to my son's teacher:

Yep. I've seen both CAR and LPB '64 Custom Shop Jazz Basses. Both had matching headstocks, and both had tort guards. I believe they were limited edition. I saw them at Guitar Center, but I don't think they were GC exclusives.

Very nice basses, both of them.

Did you happen to see if they had a ground strip like the '62 RI? (I know that's unlikely if the ashtray was in place.)

Did it have an R#### serial number or a # of ## plate?

    Thanks,
    Bill

They both had the ashtrays installed, so I couldn't see the grounding strip.

Both of them had the usual R serial numbers like the other CS instruments. I don't think they were numbered runs--just a limited color option. These were both listed as Relics, and not Closet Classics, though, and had the same checking that the photos show.
