What pickguard color would you put on it? It comes stock with a tort, I think it really doesn't fit... at all. Alswo, what other cosmetic mods would you do? I'm ordering some stuff from the USA.

I think it looks great, I'd leave it as is

The tort shade on mine isn't as red, so it looks a bit worse. I think it's too colorful with tort, I mean, rosewood fretboard, black, red, chrome and then brownish tort? :meh:

Black would maybe be too black, and I think the rosewood would start to look out of place.

Black. No doubt. And please change the knobs to original Fenders:

Yeah, I was also thinking of switching to original Fender knobs. :) Or something like this http://i.ebayimg.com/t/4-Black-Plated-Metal-ETC-Guitar-Bass-Dome-Tone-Knob-/00/s/NDY2WDcwMA==/$(KGrHqR,!jQE68o5+uJ1BO+bh(stZg~~60_3.JPG
I was also thinking about getting Red Devils or Black Beauties.
  7. +1, I love that red burst color with the tort!!! Never was a big fan of tort but it looks awsome on that one. That is a cool finish also. Maybe change the knobs is all I would do.

edit: of course all up to you and your personal pref

Hmmm... the more you guys say that, the more I like it. But my bass has a brown tort that has a few yellow spots and it really doesn't fit. So maybe I should get a red tort or red pearloid...
    Mine is more like this
  9. I've got the same bass. I have to keep mine "vintage-y" for a Zeppelin tribute band I'm in. The only mods I've done so far was a pots/capacitor replacement, strung it up with Fender flats and I replaced the dome knobs with the traditional black Jazz knobs. I think the stock pickguard is O.K. enough appearance wise for this bass' function but I'll likely get a higher quality brown tort one to replace it.

If I didn't have to keep it traditional looking/sounding, I'd go for a black three ply p/g and lace it up in all black hardware (+ nut) - and throw in some EMGs! :bassist:

I think it might look pretty cool with white pearloid.

I think the tort guard looks great. But the red tort or red pearl would also work good as well. Aged white pearloid maybe?

    Rough photoshops :p

    White pearl
White pearl (labeled as white pearl but looks like vintage white and actually fits the headstock, but it's just a coincidence)
    Higher quality red tort
    Black pearloid

    THEY ALL LOOK UGLY!!! :bawl:
It's such a shame, I think it's a beautiful finish, it just doesn't go with anything.

Ehh... For now, I'm surely switching stock knobs for Fender originals and getting inlays (white or red, haven't decided yet, depends on string and pickguard color.)

Leaning towards white pearl pickguard with matching inlays right now.
  17. Keep the tort or black. Anything else will look too strong.
  18. +1. Classy.

If you must change for the sake of change, black.
  19. black, fo'sho'
and a black control plate too
and maybe paint that headstock to match
    and a black bridge
    and black beauty strings

    okay I'll stop now

Thanks for actively helping me out. I think the black pickguard itself will look too strong, because of it's shade of black. It just stands out too much. I narrowed it down to these modifications.
    Only Fender knobs:

With Fender knobs and added inlays:

With Fender knobs, added inlays and white pearl pickguard:

With black dome pearl top knobs, added inlays and white pearl PG

Thanks for your input, guys! :)
