    ...how's it sound?

A local luthier just scored some 350-year-old redwood.

I think I might sell my soul to have him use it on a bass for me.
But is it more of a body wood or a neck wood? And does it sound good, regardless?

    Thanks!

Redwood is rather soft and is probabaly best suited for tops or venners. I wouldnt use it in a neck at all. Id be leary of using it as a body. A neckthrough wouldnt be so bad, but a bolt on in my opinion is out of the question. :meh:

Definately NOT a neck wood. Body wood yes. More of an acoustic wood than electric, but can be used on electrics for sure. Great looking wood, IMO. I know many guitar builders use it and like the 'tone' it produces. I just ordered some from Larry to use as a top on a chambered archtop electric guitar I'm planning to build. It's super light, and dents very easily.

Alright, so, redwood top. Good deal.

    Crap this'll be expensive.

  5. redwood is not expensive. I recently sold 3 tops from a 400 year old salvaged log for about $60 each. and I made a profit!

Try and stop staring at the depth in this top. It's pretty deep. And really old. More than 1000 years.

I am pretty sure I bought 2 of those from you and thank you very much. Sorry if I am thinking of someone else.
