Which pre-amps are currently considered the reference models for reviewers and manufacturers?

I guess your asking which preamps manufactures use to test their cabs and power amps or like when ass Player reviews a product.

It’s usually a number of preamps. A lot of times you see Kern mentioned as well as Demeter (usually the older 2 sp), sometime you will see an Eden or Aguilar. There’s a number of good preamp's on the market that don't completely change your instrument's tone like others do. The Trace Elliot V-type single space is a really cool pre and usually pretty cheap and the Alembic old F2B's can kick some tone! The Kern is one of my Favorites on the market at the moment.

The Kern and Demeter (older 2sp) are probably two of the clearest preamp's with out as much coloration as some of the others.

But there’s really no one preamp everyone uses.
