Refin. ? for veteran players

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by KingOfAmps, Jun 26, 2003.

  1. How come so many '60s and '70s basses have been refinished? I know that it still happens today but not nearly as much, right?

Though I'd never have (or purchase) a refinished bass, If I wanted to have one done I would not have a clue about where to go.

So was it faddish back then? Was it done/offered at every music store or something?

I'm just miffed 'cause frequently I'll run across I nice old bass only to find it's a refin. Bummer.

  2. Limited color selection back then, secondhand buyers not happy with stock color, thought a homemade psychedelic paint job would look cool, etc. I hate seeing all those 60's and 70's refins, but it's inevitable.

The older an instrument is, the more likely it is to get refinished by a bored owner.
