I am thinking of having my 1992 Smith BT 5 refinished and was wondering if you guys can recomend someone thats reputable.
I would love for Ken to do it but 1500 for a refinish is out of the question.

There is a company in Tenn called SimsCustomShop.com

Has anyone had work done with them??

Ken is? a member here. There is no one that knows his instruments better than him. Considering the work involved with a refin, that is a good price.

Are you sure you want a Wal-Mart finish on a Smith?

Has Ken been un-banned? Last I heard it was permanent.

Mike Dolan does some beautiful finish work, he's done two basses for me and they look very sharp.

Yeah. Michael Dolan did a build/finish for me that couldn't be beat.
Pat Wilkins also has a top-dog rep for finish work.

    +1 for Mr. Pat Wilkins.

He does all the US Lakland finishes and I've never seen a bad one. His 3toneSB is one of my favs in the business - a beautiful, gradual fade with smooth earthy browns, yellows, and oranges.

Of course, it's better in person - but here's my USBG:

Refins take a LOT of work. Just ask the half-naked Essex sitting in my garage right now. Don't expect it to be cheap.
