reggae bass

    anybody here in a reggae band? what styles of basslines do you use?

    i use a spector bass w/ a zoom pedal i like the boomin bass tone i get w/ both

    I find that muting your strings with your right palm resting on the strings near the bridge gives you the truncated thumpy reggae sound. It also helps to dial out your treble so that your lows are emphasized. Most importantly, tempo and note placement within the bar are essential to the feel of reggae. Hope that helps a little.

    there was a post on this somwhere the other day...

    it came down to boomy low end tone, roots, 5ths and natural minor scale, 'one drop' rhythm.

    oh and buy babylon by bus by bob & the wailers
