My roommate went to a website that really f'ed up his computer. I'm not sure what happened, but whenever he restarts it says something to the effect of "registry file not found" and then goes to a grey screen. Restarting into safe mode still just ends up in a grey screen. Anyone know what to do?

  3. The registry is basically a map of your computer for windows. it lists file paths for searching, hardware configurations, software requirements, etc. once it's corrupted or gone, you're reinstalling windows. you'll also have to reinstall all the software on the computer, since the new registry windows sets up doesn't have any of the software info.

ever heard the saying "don't put all your eggs in one basket"? Microsoft hasn't.
