...a little help here, pls, if you're NNJ/NYC area...

Can anyone recommend a shop near north NJ (or NYC) who'll do electronics work for a fair price?

I want to go active on a few basses and have done this work myself before, but don't really have the time (or patience, really) anymore...

Do you know anyone I can trust to take a drill to my basses and install pups/pre's, and re-wire?

Rudy's repair shop (48th St) does some really great work, but I don't have a basis for comparison as far as price. I would definitely trust their work though.

I use Paul Unkert in Toms River (known to Benny's as down the shore), perhaps a bit of a drive but quality work. I have NJ Guitar and Bass center in Edison do repairs on my Alembic (Alembic Dealer) and have always been happy with their work. It is much closer and some sweet instruments in there. 732-225-4444

Haven't heard Paul's name in a LONG time! Good to see someone else using him.

This is a hike, but the Guitar Guru Rick Giarmo in Whiting, NJ (Ocean county, south Jersey) is awesome. I've had him do various things on multiple basses and he always does consistent, high quality work. Your bass may remain with him for extended time, but that's only because he's extremely thorough with everything. Very nice guy as well. http://www.giarmo.com

Oh yeah, one thing to keep in mind about Giarmo. He's an authorized Seymour Duncan dealer and absolutely loves Duncan pickups/electronics. He either has on hand, or can easily get, Duncan stuff. (He hates the "Duncan Designed" stuff made in Taiwan or wherever. For him it's real US Duncan and only real US Duncan.)

He'll install pups and pre's of any brand you want (i.e. EMG, DiMarzio), but he's a die-hard Duncan man.
