Removing a stacked tone pot...

Discussion in 'Luthier's Corner' started by SlappyMcLardfat, Aug 2, 2009.

  1. I got a Deluxe Fender P-Bass special with four pots, master volume, pick up blend, stacked treble/bass, and a mid pot. I'm trying to remove all of the pots from my bass's pickguard so I can spraypaint it. I got three of the four pots out, but I can't get the top of the stacked pot off. The lower section is loose but the top is preventing it from coming off.

I don't know how much experience you guys have with stacked pots, but any help is appreciated

A stacked pot is like any other pot, just doubled. You might take a pair of pliers and slowly move it around to loosen it. Becareful not to break the lugs.

  3. i already unscrewed the mini-screw that holds it tight to the the pole. just keep yanking? haha.

You can't get the whole pot out? What are you doing, removing a piece at a time?

  5. Try this: slip a screwdriver between the upper and lower knobs, and twist it. Better if you have two screwdrivers on opposite sides, but one will do. Careful.

Wait a minute are you trying to remove the knob? I was under the impression the knob was off and the pot was stuck.
