What would be the best way to remove the nut on my bass? I need to get it off to sand it down, but I am a little apprehensive because I've never done it before. Here's a picture of it's installation: Also, once I do the work I need to on it, how do I re-install it? Thanks, Alex
firstly...for the work your doing, do you need to remove it?...you say that you're going to "sand it down"...what do you mean by that? chances are on a SDGR bass, the nut is not installed all that strong...put a little tape on the jaws of a pair of multi-grips ("channel locks" in America) and give it a gentle rock...it will pop free... once you're satisfied with your work (do a dry fit using only string tension to hold it in and check your work, first)...a little bit of PVA (white glue) is all you need...don't stick it too hard, otherwise the next nut job will be that much more difficult.... (there's lot's of "nut jobs" out there, btw... )
