Repainting my Essex Jazz - Need Opinions

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by bobbykokinos, Feb 19, 2005.

  1. I love my Essex 62 but am thinking of repainting it in a color that I don't already have a bass in. I was messing around with Photoshop and here are the two options I came up with so far:

What do you guys think? Which do you like better? I would like either color to be metallic (but not TOO thick)

Any other color / pickguard options I should try out in Photoshop? Only color I want to stay away from is Green because I already have a green bass.

I always liked the look of a yellow jazz, or maybe not so much as yellow but the 'aged white' where it turns a light yellow over the years (with a tort pickguard). photoshop that color?

  3. hmm, I like that color also. But I already have a natural jazz which I classify in the "yellow" catagory.

The yellow-orange color looks really nice with that pickguard, and it's a bit unique. Gets my vote.

That Yellow Orange jazz, with Bigger flake, NO Pick guard...

    Pure sex...

  6. I wish I could do no PG, but the routing under the guard is too big.. :(

I feel sad and its not even my bass.

  8. Hmm.. I wonder, since its going to be a solid color, if I could have the "Excessive routes" filled in..

IMO, black pearloid pickguards go best with black or black-sparkle basses.

  11. hmm.. Definantly different

    Medium Quasar Blue Metallic. Definitly.

Hmmmm sonic blue with the kind-of-mint-green aged pickgaurd is waaaaay sharp.

I disagree about only the black looking good with the black pearl. I've got a white fretless Jazz with the unlined rosewood 'board and that same black pearl pickgaurd. It's gorgeous.

That kind of silver metal-flake would rock.

  14. Its already a blue metallic right now..

On a side note.. I use to have 85 TA.. Now I have a 96 TA WS6 which is going to have some engine work done this summer :)

Very cool. Mine's got a 400BB in it at the moment. Got THAT outta a, I think it was a wrecked '72 TA. But it's a bitchin' color! You should do it ;)

Edit: Hopefully in the summer of '07 I'll be buying a Turbo TA from a friend too :). MINT MINT condition. yay! :hyper:

Whats scary is that the purple actually looks good IMO

How are you doin that with photoshop? I wanna try...

  17. You just use the Plyganol lasso tool to select the colored areas.. Whiles it selected, you go to Image>Adjustments>Replace color.

If you are familiar with PS, is should be pretty easy.

I was so going to say that! Do that, with a nice light blue pickguard and you'd be set man...

Edit: if you can do Hex numbers for colors in PS, do FF00BB ;)
    Edit 2: another one I like:[IMG]

  19. I put a pink one with a blueish PG up on the first post..It looks good but might be a little too "precious" for me :)

I like that emerald green also, but I already have a modulus close to that color..

I also tried the FF00BB.. Cool but TOO loud for me
