I recently bought a used Road Star from Reverb, I love it - BUT - the bridge is pitted and rusted, I was told by a repair shop that I would need to replace the bridge, the only ones that that seem to match the specs are the actual replacement bridges - was wondering if anyone else in the world and replaced the bridge with something else.
I believe the same bridge you’re talking about is on my RD707, and I absolutely love it’s design. The single screw saddle adjustment is something I wish was more commonplace today. I’d be surprised if yours really isn’t at all salvageable, but it would definitely be easier to drill for an pop on any new top mount bridge. Pulling apart and cleaning an old bridge is tedious and time consuming for sure, and if it’s really that far gone that really sucks. But, I think that’s a bridge worth saving if at all possible.
Can you show some pictures of the bridge, please? Like wilde4oldcars said it could be saved. These are very good bridges, top mount strings, very stable. It worth to put some effort in it.
Well, I bit the bullet and am going to replace my busted up bridge with a great condition original one that I found online, wasn't as inexpensive as some of the replacement options I was hoping would work, but y'all convinced me to keep it as is.
