Replace just bridge pup on J ok?

I've got an 80's MIJ Fender fretless. The pups on it are kind of wimpy soundwise. My instinct is to replace them with Bartolinis. Since I am mostly interested in the "mwah" sound, can I get away with merely replacing the bridge pup? Will this cause mismatch problems when I occasionally blend in the neck?

Also, if you think there is a better pup for my use, go ahead and suggest. (Passive only)

Wimpy soundwise? I wouldn't switch to Barts then. Try a set of Duncan hot jazz pups. I'd replace both, but it is possible to replace just one.
