I have a 5 string burner that needs a new case. My original one basically disintegrated years ago and I opted for a very heavy travel case (I was gigging a lot at the time and wanted something bombproof) but I'd like to get something new that's not nearly as heavy. I thought these looked interesting, especially with the LED, https://www.gatorcases.com/instrument-bassguitar/

I have one of those Gator TSA-edition cases without the LED option, and it's a pretty nice case. Definitely lighter than anything one would consider "heavy duty" (e.g., a full-on ATA-spec flight case) and I'm pretty sure it's lighter than your typical Fender-type standard plywood HSC.

For my KS basses, I usually use a good quality gig bag, like a Mono M80 or Reunion Blues Continental. However, I did find one lightweight case that fits the BSR body shape, which is made by WolfPak. I would not use it for flying or serious traveling, but for around town, it should be okay. I got it when they were blowing them out at my local Guitar Center.

I can't bring myself to just use a gig bag for my Smith. I just don't feel like it protects enough.

A good gig bag offers as much protection as a hsc for everything except being run over by a car.
