Was given a Peavey Dyna Bass went to Mandolin Bros. and was told neck is twisted beyond repair. Anybody know what kind of neck would fit as substitute? Can't find any Dyna Bass necks for sale. thanks
Peavey's tooling was pretty exact back then, so I'd imagine that a Fury, Patriot, Foundation, or maybe even a T-40 neck would fit the neck pocket. I'm not 100 percent certain that they didn't change the design, so I'd make sure to get measurements before pulling the trigger if I were you.
Any peavey neck from a similar time period with the same number of frets should do just fine. Even it has one more or less fret, you can probably make due by adjusting the bridge saddles.
My Dyna has a slight twist. It doesn't affect intonation or playability so I left it alone. I wonder if this is common?
A foundation or fury neck would be a direct replacement. Patriots have either jazz or precision widths, but the heel is virtually identical and would bolt in also. The same can be said for t-20, T-45, and Forum necks. T-40 necks are only 20 Fret and that may not work well depending on your bridge placement. I have seen a G&L neck on Foundation. The heel shape and size look similar, and it was 21 fret so that might also be a possibility.
The earliest Dyna Basses I remember were basically Foundations with active electronics so I would think that Foundation necks would fit for sure.
My Fury supposedly has the same twist. I had a tech at a Peavey dealer tell me once that the construction method of their necks where they center-join two pieces of wood causes it. He said my Fury was unfixable a long time ago, but like you, I've never had a problem getting it set up. That visit was the reason I learned how to set up my own instruments.
I've got a Dynabass neck in grey, on a spares or repair body....... Make me an offer? Based Leeds, UK
