Replacing Control Knobs

Discussion in 'Hardware, Setup & Repair [BG]' started by ArchBass, Jun 4, 2001.

  1. I am looking into replacing my volume and tone control knobs on my BBN4. The factory knobs, to the best of my knowledge, are glued on. I don't see a set screw. I am looking for the best and easiest way to pull these knobs off without damaging my bass. Should I just pry or do I heat up the knobs?

I have the replacement knobs which have a set screw. So the installing of the new ones shouldn't be an issue.

Probably they are set on splines, which seems to be standard for guitar controls.

Put some thing stiff and wide between the bass and a small screwdriver and pry carefully. If it doesn't move: check with the manufacturer.

Just pull slowly with little wiggles, thats what worked on my BBN4F.
  4. I was able to do as you said APouncer and I now have nice new chrome knobs which helped to make my bass look much better.

Againg, thanks to you both APounce and Suburban.
