Replacing P neck with Jazz - affect tone?

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by SirGrotius, May 18, 2011.

  1. I love the bump of a P but love the neck of a J. You all recommended I consider switching out the neck on my MIA P for a J.

A few questions re: this brilliant idea:

    • WIll this affect the tone of the P?
    • Where can I get a real Fender neck or am I doomed to a slightly different one?
    • Won't there be a little gap near the body, since the J neck is thinner or does it widen that much at the base?

    Cheers!!

I did exactly this. The tone did not change, at least not enough to make a bean's worth of difference to me.

I got my neck from Warmoth, but Fender J necks are readily available from numerous sources.

There was no neck pocket/fit issue. It fit right from the get-go.

    I hope this helps.
