I am currently using an Eden CXC-210 Combo for small clubs (100-150 people). This combo is portable and sounds great but I would like something with just a bit more headroom. I play in a four piece blues/R&B group. I have read a lot of threads here and the Mesa Walkabout head seems like a good choice. I have also searched Bag End cabinets here and they too seem like a popular choice. What I am thinking about is the Walkabout head with two Bag End S12-D cabinets. The head with one cabinet should be adequate for rehearsals and small gigs (<50 people) and for a bigger gig I would bring both cabinets. Any gig bigger than that, I would DI the head and let the FOH system take care of it. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks. P.S. Another option (thanks to Dave at Club Bass) is an EAiAMP 350 with two CXL-110 cabinets. Again any comments would be appreciated.
that sounds like a killer little rig. but, another pair of speakers to try are Aguilar GS112's. seems like ALOT of guys here really dig how the Mesa Walkabout or anything Mesa sounds with the Aguilar sound. prolly a great blend of the clean tubey gloss of the Mesa mixing with the lower churning sauce of the Aguilar. also, consider that the 12" speakers wont be as chest punchie as the 10" of the Eden combo. still, it'd fill out that low end booty very nicely and move a whole lot more air. that EA combo might do you really good, but it wont move nearly as much air as a pair of 12". that's just physics.
Without ever trying the combination you're interested in I'm sure it will work. But as a Bag End user I would have you review the 400 watt/ 1600 watts peak spec. These cabinets love current and have the potential to play very loud.
I think that either the Walkabout/Bag End setup or the EA setup would make you very happy. I have a number of EA cabs (mostly VL-series), which I love, and I also have a Walkabout. I use my Walkabout mostly with my Epifani T-112/T-110UL (though I have another T-112 on the way which I found used! ), and I am very happy with this mini rig. I'd say get the Walkabout, and then take it to any stores that might be close enough to audition some cabs. Tom.
