Reshaping the neck?

    what is this proccess all about? could it be used to "thin out" the overly thick neck of my cremona?also is this an expensive process? thanks for the help.

    DB necks can be "thinned down" to suit the taste of the owner. Pricing depends entirely on the luthier in question, but remember: with luthiers, as with anything, you get what you pay for (horror stories available upon request). The one thing that any decent luthier will tell you on this issue is to use caution when thinning a neck, because you can take it off, but you can't put it back on.

    I had mine thinned a bit when I bought my carved bass, and it still feels too thick to me. But now, after 9 months or so of playing on it, I'm sure that I want to bring it down a bit more. At first, I wasn't so sure.

    Chris is entirely right. Especially when dealing with Cremonas as the wood they use for the neck is much softer than maple. I've just finished doing that very thing on that very instrument and was amazed how easy it is to remove lots of wood from the back of the neck quickly. And they use the same wood as fingerboards too!
