My Ampeg SVT-810e has taken a beating, and is due for a facelift.

My band buddies and I were discussing it, and I think we're all gonna go with white tolex, but I'll do it sooner than them now, so, let the journey begin.

Can someone point me to a good tutorial for retolexing a big cab? I've tried to find some but I have terrible luck with searches.

Also, what's the most durable tolex you've come across? I like the smooth Mesa-style I've found, but I have no idea if it'll last. Links?

Thanks a gazillion. I'll probably be changing my grillcloth to oxblood eventually too... :bassist:

White will show every scuff. It's hard to keep it looking good and clean and therefore probably won't last as long.

    How about orange?

  6. Go for blonde instead.

I had a cream 2X15 back in the day with my Sunn and that cab looked filthy, torn and tattered in no time.

A 135 pound SVT cab gets scraped, dinged, dragged, dropped and banged loading and unloading.

Bars are not generally known for their tidy loading zones or stages.

I would just glue back the loose Tolex and keep using it or re-finish it
    in SVT black or charcoal.

If you want to do something cool to a stained grill cloth after cleaning, consider hiring
an air brush artist and have something cool painted on the cloth.

I recovered my SVT head and cabinet myself.
I also did the grill cloth.
What do you need to know?

I think white would look HOT espcially with some oxblood grill, BUT, it will get dirty. If you wanna stand out, how bout blue, green, purple, orange, or red?

A picture filled tutorial, it doesn't seem hard,
but I don't want to screw it up. :)

I'll be making a slipcover for it... ;) I know, it gets dirtier easier, but it just doesn't have the look when its black, you know?

By the way, the venues I play in aren't bars.

First thing would be to figure WHERE you want the seams to be.
That will dictate how much material you need.
A non backed tolex simular to what flip top sells and a few quarts of water based floor tile cement.
Also a rolling pin and some sharp razor blades.

The seams would be where the original ones are; One piece for the top, back, and bottom, and one peice for each side.

I was gonna get some of the white tolex from Mojotone.

Go to your local LINE-X dealer and have them "TOLEX" the thing in WHITE truck bedliner... If it gets dirty after that just hit it with the garden hose. (Just kidding about the hose thing" BOB
