Ok, this is my brother's pedal, but like I said I'll do a couple quick clips just so you can see how it sounds. Here's with my Jazz Bass for a rather heavily distorted sound, which is what this pedal does best: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=889952&songID=7236083 Then I tried to get a more overdriven sound, but on any of the clipping settings, the more you clean it up, the less bass you've got and the sound gets very thin. This is the best compromise I could make for an overdriven tone, it's still pretty dirty: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=889952&songID=7236086 So anyways check it out and let me know what you think. I'm not really considering buying this pedal off my brother, but he's probably going to be getting rid of it since I sold him my OCD and he's really happy with that now. So yeah, let me know what you think.
Have loved almost all your recent clips. This is the first one that I didn't like. In fact.. it just seemed very bland and not really much going on. Pretty standard distortion to me.
I kinda agree with you. Mostly what I have to go by is what I heard my brother do with this pedal, and he sounded pretty dry with it, just not enough character. I'm getting into more sounds that have more character lately.
Yeah I definitely like the first clip better too. I haven't gotten to listen to these through a decent speaker setup yet though, so I shouldn't judge them too much until I've done that.
The second has that not so warm, unwieldy kind of tone. It reminds me of the Boss ODB. The first is somehow warmer.
Yeah, along with getting weak sounding when you turn down the gain it also gets tinny and a little harsh. This pedal definitely works best for heavy distortion.
Yeah, my Turbo Rat could do overdriven tones too without losing the bottom, but it still didn't have as fat bottom as the Box of Rock for that kind of sound, Rats just thin out a bit with the drive low. Anybody else feel the same way about these clips? Or feel differently?
Also, in case anyone cares, I've figured out that I'm using the diode clipping for the first clip, and the asymmetrical clipping for the second clip. If anyone wants to hear the symmetrical clipping I might still have this pedal around a bit, I'm not sure if my brother has taken it yet or not.
Ok I was curious so I did an SG Bass soundclip, here you go: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_songInfo.cfm?bandID=889952&songID=7252396 now does this sound better than the Jazz clips? Or lame? Or what? I can't listen to this over a good speaker setup right now so I honestly don't know myself.
Now that I can actually listen to it I think I like this pedal a lot better with my SG Bass. Does anyone feel differently or the same? Let me know what you think.
Sounds badass with the SG Bass. Very guitar like, but fat too. Oh and btw I am listening to the clips thru a decent 2.1 Logitech speaker setup. -Jon
Okay cool. Yeah it is very guitar like, I think that's what I like about my SG Bass, it's fat, yet gets that distorted tone that I like which lets me cover bass and rhythm guitar duties.
Yeah, that is general the consensus on all your demos you do with the SG. I try my hardest to look beyond that and listen to the core effect, but its sometimes hard to get past
Right, it's not for everyone. I like it because my SG is still fatter and bassier than my Jazz, which is pretty anemic in comparison, but I'm sure it sounds more "standard". Part of it is just how I play too. That's part of what I like about this forum, is checking out other people's playing. It's kind of shocking to me, pretty much no one plays anything like I do. For some reason that really surprises me.
