same as the Stingray thread from last week...what do you think of when you hear about a Rick bass? Can be a band, player, tone, or your favorite brand of laundry detergent, just whatever comes to mind

I thought Rickenbacker had come out with a new 3-string.

  10. geddy lee comes to mind.and amazingly distinctive tone that runs along side of guitars, rather than being burried under them

  11. Ugly bass. Sorry, never been a fan of the Ric. But hey, that's just my thought.

    Great tone, not enough frets.

When I think of Rickenbacker what comes to mind?

    Mechanical mute ... yecch
    Hard to set up.
Binding ... looks cool but it is uncomfortable.
    Finished bubinga fretboard ... cool
    Tailpiece pullup ... bummer
Single coil pickups ... they sound cool ... but that buzz can be annoying.
Ric-o-sound ... obsolete but kinda cool feature
.0047 capacitor ... TAKE IT OUT!
Pickup Covers ... Always a bad idea.
    Triangle inlays ... cool
Hard to get spare parts for.
    Priced too high.
    Cool body shape.

I like Rics but I am disappointed that they have never produced a good 5 string bass.

The bass I want that I will probably never get because I know that deep down, my main J bass will always be my number one girl.

I have owned and played a lot of Rics ... pretty much every bass model from pretty much every era. Not a single one of them had neck dive.

Mine doesn't either. Admittedly, it's not as "butt-heavy" as some fenders can be, and left to it's own devices it likes to settle pretty much parallel to the floor, but it certainly doesn't try and dive any lower than that. Now my Guild JS-2, which looks like an SG or Gibson EB type, now THAT thing has neckdive.
