In another thread I saw their were allusions to hardware updates in Rickenbacker basses. I've seen the new bridges but what of the supposed switch to a single Truss Rod? Is this in fact the case?
Same. There is mention of it here Ordered a Rickenbacker 4003 yesterday, any advice? But like you I cant find anything else about it
Rickresource Rickenbacker Forum • View topic - Anyone know about the 2020 new single truss rod? Interesting , I found that a couple of limited edition 2020 basses DO have a single, dual-action truss rod.
The single rods are standard in the Al Cisnero's signature edition, and are showing up in the special run limited editions they've been tossing out lately. I think its the shape of things to come.
They changed from the old hairpin truss rods to the more common ones, don't know what they're called but it was done in 1984.
I saw a post from Ben Hall a week or two ago saying basically no decision had been made yet whether to switch.
So I'm thinking of turning the key (finally) on a Rick 4003S. After I saw the new bridge I was excited but the idea of a normal truss rod would make it a no brainer move for me.
Coming from Japan? No. RIC does not make instruments anywhere but their factory in Santa Ana. Everything else claiming to be a single truss rod outside of official RIC channels is a fake and has no connection to RIC. Everything. RIC does ship a substantial number of instruments to Japan, and occasionally the grey market tries to sell them back to the USA at inflated prices. But so far all of these instruments have the traditional double truss rod, as RIC is only now, as posted above, installing the single rod in select models. Yep, dual truss rods are better, you have more control over the neck regardless of what people here say. Some of the special order Rics have a single I guess but the vast majority still have dual.
why do you prefer dual? is the meme that they are hard to set relief just that....a meme? could you link the thread please sir?
With dual you have limited control over each side of the neck individually, if for example you have more fret buzz on one side you just loosen that side a tiny bit and they do half the work of a normal single truss rod. they’ve had “normal truss rods” since the early 80s. The single truss rod would actually be an “abnormal truss rod” (bi flex).
Yeah... that is what my original post said: “they did , in all the stuff coming FROM Japan. Not in real rics though”
