If you haven't heard this one, at least listen to it at the store. Aside from Ricky Lee's airbrush-style "i can't sing either" approach, the acoustic bass of Richard Davis, Paul Novinski and Michael Elizondo is crisp, clear and very much in front.Covers Show Biz Kids and Spark of the High Heeled Boys are cool renditions with nice bass, though not complicated. Joe Jackson is on piano for some tunes if you like him. Tunes by Gershwin, Bernstein, Marvin Gaye and Lennon/McC make the parady interesting. Though I'd prefer to hear Ricky Lee sing with more energy as in Chuck E's in Love or Danny's All Start Joint (those days are long gone, I'm afraid), she sounds closer here than in Flying Cowboys or the other depressing Geffen releases. This one is Artemis. I always like to hear a DB esp. when it is prominently featured. Sounds like the strings are pretty high off the board. Listen before you buy in case her almost-Billie-Holiday style grates on your nerves like it does my wife's.
