Still one of my favorite musicians to listen to. Does anyone have any insight into the instrument Rinat was playing? I understand that he is unfortunately unable to play anymore, which is very sad.
It may be the Matheus Albany, gifted from friend Alexander Stepanov. Rinat himself said he used the LSO owned Carcasi until he went to Euxoda solo strings on the Albany. The Carcasi was for orchestral. Going from memory here, I thought his teacher also gifted him a bass and Rinat mentions this when dedicating a memorial piece to his teacher. (could be the Stepanov memorial) {}
thanks! where did you find that extract? Very interesting. I always wondered how long the string lengths were of the Albani and Carcassi.
I was just listening to Alina Ibragamova's incredible recording of Shostakovich. I hadn't made the connection. One talented family.
That must sound incredible! Apart from the long string length, the f-holes are set relatively low on the body.
