One of the legends gone but not forgotten. Even Big Daddy's getting long in the tooth these days, however I hear Ed Iskederian at the ripe old age of 96 was at PRI this year still in the game.
I used to listen to drag racing on my tiny transistor radio back in the day. Big Daddy, Mongoose, etc. Them were the days.
Dang man.... So many of the icons of my youth leaving us. Seems silly but I loved building model cars of the mans pro stock machines as a lad. Turned him into an imaginary friend for this young horsepower lover.... He was an awesome man and an even more awesome racer. RIP Mister Glidden.
We go to the California hot rod reunion in Bakersfield every year and on Saturday night they read the names of those racers and others involved in the sport that have passed on that year, the list is always long.
I ran into Prudhomme at a local restaurant earlier this year. Had a little chat - he's looking great and a hella nice guy.
Met and spoke with Bob and his son many many times. He was super kind and helpful to a young man who was just getting into drag racing. His Pinto was amazing! Sad to hear of his passing. He was a quality human being.
Going to Garlit's museum next year on vacation. No telling how long he'll be around. Or me, for that matter.
