One of the few immediately recognizable voices in Bluegrass. Say Hi to Carter for us.

The last of the first generation of bluegrass artists. For a while it seemed like he would always be with us.

About 20 years ago I was playing a bluegrass festival that Ralph was playing at. Our band was warming up before our turn and we were playing Clinch Mt. Backstep. Ralph came into the room we were in and never said a word, only grinned. Bluegrass suffered a great loss yesterday.

I attended a David Grisman concert last night and David played a couple of tunes in tribute to both Ralph and the Stanley Brothers culminating in an Ralph Stanley encore featuring guest Drew Emmitt from Leftover Salmon. David and Drew swapped mandolin solos that Doc would have loved! This is a huge loss but his music is eternal. RIP Dr. Stanley.
