RIP Green Onions bass dude ---------------------------------------------------- Lewis "Lewie" Steinberg (September 13, 1933 – July 21, 2016) was an American musician best known as the original bass guitar player for soul music group Booker T. & the M.G.'s. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee. Steinberg was in the group from 1962 to 1965. He is featured on "Green Onions", its B-side, "Behave Yourself," and the Green Onions album. He recorded one more album with the band, Soul Dressing in 1965. Unlike the first album, every song but one on Soul Dressing was an original. About that time, Steinberg left the group and was replaced by Donald "Duck" Dunn. Steinberg was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992[1] and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Steinberg lived in Memphis, Tennessee. Steinberg and members of his family were honored with a Brass Note on Beale Street's Walk of Fame, in Memphis, on November 14, 2010. He died on July 21, 2016 in Memphis.
I like practically every kind of music Ive heard over the years, but if I had to pick a favorite song it would be Green Onions. I just love the sound of it. RIP Lewis.
