Keyboardist for the Pat Metheny Group for decades. I was really a fan of him before the rest of the group from "The Search" on their American Garage album. It was the theme song to a PBS show called "Search for Solutions" which we used to watch in public school.

Lyle Mays passed away on Feb 10, 2020 according to the Pat Metheny website.

Im pretty new into digesting jazz and the Pat Metheny Trio has to be one of the best musical acts to have been together.

RIP Lyle and thanks for everything.

The Pat Metheny Group (Metheny-Mays-Gottlieb-Egan) from the '70s...must hear 'em.
    Try "Jaco".

The Pat Metheny Trio had no keys...(bass-drums-guitar). Their Trio-Live album is fantastic

Lyle from the get go had his own unique pallette of synth sounds that were always very warm and organic sounding. You knew it was Lyle in a couple seconds.

His Oberheim is still one of my favorite synth sounds and unlike a lot others from that time period, aged well. The perfect foil for Metheny.

    So terribly sad.

I first saw TPMG in 1978 and Lyle was just amazing.

    At 66...much too young.
My heart goes out to his family and close friends.

I read about this on the AGF this morning, Very sad to learn about his passing.

I met him in the early '80s after a PMG show at the Columbus Agora. Very nice guy and he was really happy to talk about the Synclavier that he had recently gotten.

First time I saw him was with Joni Mitchell in 1979.

    R.I.P., Lyle.
