When I was an aspiring young bassist I worked in a great horn store for awhile, and the owner and his circle of friends were all fairly advanced in age. My man Freddy Pinto was unfortunately too sick to play his beloved trumpet anymore, but he was still a big fan and brought us all lots of cassettes he had dubbed of then current trumpet releases. I got more than a few Roy Hargrove tapes from him. A nice memory brought on by sad news.

    RIP, Roy Hargrove.

What it must be like to get the call: "Roy, it's Herbie. Yes, really. How about a long tour with me and Mike Brecker? Yes, really."

    RIP maestro.

  8. I'll do like Seanto and Sam Sherry, above, and leave another small epitaph.
