:( 'Polk Salad Annie' songwriter Tony Joe White dead at 75

A fine songwriter and singer, though covers of his material are better known. Elvis Presley covered this one a ton after it came out.

Dusty Springfield covered his tale of race relations at a personal level.

He was on Letterman a few years ago with the Foo Fighters. Dave L. summed it up nicely at the end.

And he put out a new album just last month on Yep Roc. RIP, sir.

A drummer who comes to a monthly open jam here always wants to do Poke Salad Annie. It’s always a fun song.
    RIP Mr. White.

  6. I just got picked up by a blues band in the last couple of weeks. One of the first songs I had to learn for this band was "Polk Salad Annie." Fun song to play. RIP Mr. White.

Bummer. This made me sad. My dad turned me on to TJW many years back.

'Roosevelt and Ira Lee' was one of our favorite songs to turn up loud and sing together on those many long trips across the country. His version of 'Rainy Night in Georgia' was always one of my favorites, too.

R.I.P Tony Joe and thanks for the music.

A favorite from his later days. The video is dumb, shows him playing electric guitar, when he isn’t, so just close your eyes.

Tribute to him, and so love the tracks and bass presence I've been listening lately. Big loss.

I had just found out about him just a few years ago. Awesome guitar player, always loved his stuff. Especially swamp rap. Always loved how fun that one was.
