They're either out trying on new spandex or are ashamed that they are afraid to do it in the dirt. :spit:

  3. I had a Cannondale R-2000. Raced/got spanked a few times, rode with/got spanked by the local 'fast' guys a lot, then went full-time parent. I kinda miss it, but the motorists in this area are hostile, & the roadies fuel the fire by being utterly stupid.

Why did people shout 'Wally' at roadies in the UK during the 70's & 80's?

Former 200+ mile/week rider who could hang with many of the shaved leg jersey riders/teams I encountered out on Austin's Capital of TX highway back in the early 90's...

...though I always got laughed at for my complete inability to track stand or change a tire efficiently. Apparently there was something funny about a guy not being able to get out of his clips fast enough to avoid falling over once he lost his balance... harrrumph!

I ride a 98 litespeed natchez, Though not riding much for a while :bag:

When i was riding regularly I split my time on the mountain and road.

Road for the excellent training long 4-6 hour rides.
And mountain for the fun (interval-ish) trail riding

well since I've responded to every thread on bikes lately, why not this one. Summer before last I was riding about 50 miles a week on my dad's old ralleigh. I can't remember the model off the top of my head, but It was from the early 70's. The thing weighs as much as I do, but after all those years it still is a pretty smooth ride, except for the bumpy indiana country roads.:D

  12. woo!!!

yep 300miles a week , race competitivly for one the top junior teams in this country ive won national medals in both road and track.

and i ride a custom Mike kowal bike its 7005 with carbon rear stays ,campag chorus groupset, pazzaz carbon wheels and other carbon stuff (chainset , handle bars etc)

I'm getting back into it after a long hiatus. I've got a mid 90's miyata with shimano, saving my money for a Klein right now. We have crappy weather here a significant portion of the time so riding season is sporadic. Just around the corner now though.

    I ride a 1985 Trek 520 Touring bike that's stock with a full Shimano N600 group.

It's heavy by today's standards but it's solid, and shifts really well. I rode it on last year's AIDS Ride from San Francisco to LA with minimal problems. I need to get a replacement 27" tube for her so I'm currently running errands with my wife's hybrid. :(
