I am going to be posting a lot of my basses for sale in order to purchase a new motor for my truck.

Next up is my Rob Allen MB-2f, 34" scale, fretted 5 string bass that I'm told might be rare, but there seems to be some debate about that so I've removed the word "rare" from the description and title.

Will come shipped in this Fender HSC:

    From Rob Allen:
The MB-2f bass combines the warmth of an upright bass with the punch of a solid body. It is a lightweight hybrid, semi-hollow instrument that is organic in sound and feel. The MB-2f is a handmade bass of the highest quality, featuring hand selected tone woods, minimal finish for optimum resonance, and high quality electronics that feature a discreet signal path for pure unadulterated bass tone. The La Bella strings feature a steel core with a smooth nylon outer wrapping, which contribute to ease of intonation.

The MB-2f also features tiny mandolin sized frets and an Indian Rosewood fingerboard. Indian Rosewood, while certainly a hard wood, is less heavy and dense than the ebony and cocobolo used on fretless models. This “softer” wood helps to offset the addition of subtle brightness added by frets, and creates a beautiful full yet clear tone. The bridge is also made of the same material, and can be adjusted for intonation. The small frets make for a very comfortable feel, improve intonation due to their low profile, and will last practically forever as the nylon wrapped strings cause very little wear.

No dings, scratches or dents anywhere. The only "issue," if you want to call it that, is a bit of ‘shining’ of the body wood where the thumb sits on the thumb rest.

    • Padauk wood top over a one piece Ash body
    • 34" scale (checked and double checked!)
    • 1 7/8" nut
    • approximate weight 7 pounds
    • birdseye maple neck finished in satin lacquer
    • Cocobolo fingerboard
    • oil finish on body
    • semi-hollow body design
    • volume control incorporated into bridge
    • La Bella nylon wrapped black strings
    • Hipshot tuners
    • Fishman Matrix piezo pickup
    • Fender HSC included

Please - NO trade offers - I beg you.

$2200 shipped CONUS only and would prefer Dwolla or money order on this one but I will accept PayPal if I absolutely have to.

You should check the scale length, I think this one is 34" which makes it very rare. GLWTS

Thanks for noticing. You are correct and the listing has been updated. Does that mean I should ask more for this? Is the price right? So hard to tell her on TB.

What year was the bass made?

Unless it is brand new, your price is fine IME. Not high, not low.

Thanks Baird. I thought it was a fair price. Could probably get more but that would just agonize the viewers!

It was made in 1998 and it's Serial #053.
