One more of the piezo posse is up:

Blonde on blonde Rob Allen MB2-5 fretless. 35 inch scale. B-G strung. Beautiful ebony Fingerboard has very nice, subtle figuring.

Flamed maple top and birdseye maple neck. Sleek neck (feels good even in my size medium paws). Very good condition--only marks i found are a few small dings on back of body, side and small mark on fingerboard (see below)

Downsized to a much smaller place. Clearing house of basses I don't play enough (I prefer 34" scale).

Currently strung with super cool labella "white" tapewound strings.

Woah! That reminds me of a bass guitar version of Slender Man.

    Gorgeous instrument.

More update. Will include original rob Allen gig bag and a lightweight skb or gator hard shell.

Went over bass with microscope...two other small dings: just above 5th fret.

I thought Rob only used cocobolo and ebony for the fingerboards of his MB-2s. That looks like ebony to me.

    I stand corrected. Thanks bass12.

    Fingerboard is most likely ebony.

Hmmmnn. I actually don't know....It's a standard rob allen 35" scale. Spaced like every other rob allen mb2. Think it's 18nm

That said, I'll grab my caliper and get right back to you.

  10. This looks like a lovely bass. How does it sound? It is action easy? Where are the knobs?
    Tell me more.

Thanks for your enquiry. In my opinion, it sounds like hundreds of unicorns riding a magic water slide. From a more pragmatic perspective, it sounds like a Rob Allen; a fretless electric with distinct upright bass qualities. There are fantastic sound clips on the "show us your Rob Allen" forum and Rob's website. The sound of MB2s are very consistent.

Typical to Rob's basses, the action is effortless. Its a very responsive instrument that rewards a subtle touch. I recommend further fine tuning the action to your taste and playing style via the trussrod--again, its very responsive.

Its a full 35" scale but is remarkably compact and lightweight.

A lot of the unique RA sound is the product of the design and build quality. Electronics are minimal. Like, all MB2's, there is only one volume knob right there on the bridge. There is a treble roll off adjustment inside the body you can adjust with a screwdriver.

  14. I am wondering if the bass is still available. I am currently figuring how I could swing the cost, and seriously interested. Thanks, Tovah
